Bigger Thomas were named for a character in the book "Native Son," and were first named Panic, but had to change their name after another band sent them a cease-and-desist letter.

Best,

SteveSteve from Moonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06293282482964914456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7744444020349998004.post-38907343339875636812020-07-11T21:44:26.466-04:002020-07-11T21:44:26.466-04:00NYCs were so damn good!!! I saw them at Rutgers and thought they were fantastic, adding a bit of calypso, if I’m not mistaken. Or that’s an entirely different band and my memory sucks?theyardsalemama.blogspothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07334742501494282671noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7744444020349998004.post-85000502658986478422010-12-28T17:35:40.483-05:002010-12-28T17:35:40.483-05:00Seasons greetings to all music fans and a warm tha...Seasons greetings to all music fans and a warm thank you to Marco and Steve
for the many (and I do mean many) intelligent questions posed.!
To clear a few comments up, the Country Club show in Reseda, CA (1989) consisted of 5 songs and 10 fights on the dancefloor. A warning was issued that if there was any more outbreaks of violence, the band would leave the stage, not to return. This persisted and we walked, got paid in full, and accepted the promoters apologies for the audiences behavior.
This show was caught on video by Tom Perna as proof. Our keyboard player and guitarist even jumped in the audience to break up a fight...A horrible audience indeed, but a very exciting watch. The actual music performed that night was more or less the same songs Steve Shafer saw at the Pyramid Club that same year. For shame, Dr. Anonymous- Your misdiagnosis of Meglomania was just that, for when speaking about music (especially about any of my bands) one should realise that the writer is unquestionably in complete command. As for the bitter comment, I'd rather make waves than ride them. Nothing would displease me more than to be a one-hit wonder, playing the same song every day and night from State fair to State Fair. You honestly have no clue of my motives in the music scene. Mine are what I can offer, not what I can sifen- they who know me best can attest to that. One should enter music for the right reasons and I'm certain that I have. Thank you for reading the interview, God knows I wouldn't read an article pertaining to a band I thought "horrible"...For this I consider your attention a personal victory.
In this Holiday Season we should pity poor "Poopypants". Like tiny Tim, he sits alone with his crutch, not realising that he was only one little drummer boy and certainly not the best of the lot. Now he finds himself throwing stones in the dark with a poison pen and a Toxic Pen name. I wish he were as much a slave to the music as to his ego and emotions. His lack of self- awareness has left him bitter and at a loss for judgement. He barks at successful bands like Green Day, but does he have a name to call himself when he looks in the mirror? Is there a name for those musicians who lack the dedication, such as a Mike Hix or Ivan L'Oaces? The ones who should feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to entertain, but have squandered it by not putting themselves out there and giving it their all...Ask not what your band can do for you, but what you can do for your band.//and that is what makes you even worse Mr. Poopypants... Happy New Year everyone!Robert Tierneynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7744444020349998004.post-87947520380673092862010-11-21T05:19:42.540-05:002010-11-21T05:19:42.540-05:00What a fab interview! I love when people can speak their mind and say it like it is.
Robert Tierney is not only a forward thinker, but also intelligent, charming and very witty. I think he was pretty much summed up in the first paragraph. I guess that just doesn't sit too well with some people!
There's a book called 'The Little Book of Thinking Errors', written by Kevin Michael O'Doherty. It's a great personal development book which "Anonymous" and Mr "Poopy Pants" may find very helpful. Oh, and also a book called 'Five Simple Steps to Emotional Healing', by Gloria Arenson. These, along with many other self help books may help them to become less bitter and happier for others. No offence. They worked for me!
Just a thought. :-)Coco Birkahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09354104479935997311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7744444020349998004.post-25038932384456703552010-11-19T14:49:20.487-05:002010-11-19T14:49:20.487-05:00Hey Mr Poopy pork pie hat,I can't disagree mor...Hey Mr Poopy pork pie hat,I can't disagree more. You obviously didn't see them at Irving Plaza for the Beerfest. They rocked. They really hit their stride as a band once they got rid of that slacker Paul Gill. ----------------The MoleThe Molenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7744444020349998004.post-10134722101037176532010-10-09T19:33:32.613-04:002010-10-09T19:33:32.613-04:00Mr. PP:

Did I mention that RT might be outspoken? He said he liked being controversial...

For what it's worth, I saw The NY Citizens perform several times in 1989 and 1990--their best being a gig at New York City's Pyramid Club in May 1989 with The Scofflaws.
