The Duff Guide to Ska is pleased to offer up the third installment of our video flashback of The Toasters and The Scofflaws in action at NYC's Palladium in November 1992 (these were taped as bumpers for a one-off television special that is now lost to the ages).

Duff Guide to Ska Video Vault: The Toasters' "Original Man" and The Scofflaws' "Daniel Ortega"
The Duff Guide to Ska is proud to present the second installment of our video flashback of The Toasters and The Scofflaws in action at NYC's Palladium in November 1992 (these were taped as bumpers for a one-off television special that is now lost to the ages).
This short clip has The Scofflaws performing Mike Drance's "Daniel Ortega" instrumental, while The Toasters play a track that I think must be titled "Original Man" (I'm assuming that Pablo D. must have penned this tune, since it didn't become a part of The Toasters set list or make it on an album after he parted ways with the band).
(For anyone who cares--and, really, why should you-- I was one of the fans grooving to the beat that day. Fortunately, my ugly mug is hidden in this video; you only "see" me in one shot dancing as a black silhouette against a blue background!)

Duff Guide to Ska Video Vault: The Toasters' "Thrill Me Up" and The Scofflaws' "A Shot in the Dark"
For years I've been sitting on some live Super 8 sound film footage that I shot of The Toasters, King Apparatus, Desorden Publico, Dance Hall Crashers, The Skunks, and more around '93 or '94 at SOB's in Manhattan. All of these reels need to be professionally converted to digital files--which ain't cheap--but I'll get around to it some point soon and share this blast from the past with all the ska fans out there.
I also have a tape of The Toasters and Scofflaws performing live at NYC's Palladium in November 1992 for an unnamed television special (those in the know should try to spot some of the early '90s NYC ska scenesters dancing on stage between the bands). Every now and then, I will be posting short excerpts from this show, the first of which features The Scofflaws covering Henry Mancini's "A Shot in the Dark" and The Toasters performing "Thrill Me Up." Watch it here. See The Scofflaws in their glory days (Victor Rice in a fez and Mike Drance on bari sax!)--and check out what must be one of the few videotaped appearances of Pablo D., who was briefly in The Toasters, just after Cashew Miles and before Coolie Ranx (and he chats on a few New York Fever tracks).
